Geopolitical Strategery: Egypt’s Sturm und Drang

by Jeff Pozmantier on February 1, 2011[singlepic id=475 w=320 h=240 float=right]
Who would have thunk that a satirical Will Ferrell skit on George Bush’s famous tendency to expand the English language would best describe the key geopolitical challenges we now face in Egypt? It is, after all, all about that there strategery thing, as well as speaking in a calibrated manner that will hopefully appeal, or at least not offend, the many different domestic and international audiences that now watch our every move.

Strategery (also known as “strategy” to the more grammatically inclined) demands that America react carefully and wisely.

Middle East Post Report: Mike Huckabee joins the celebrations of a new Israeli settlement in the heart of East Jerusalem

The Middle East Post correspondent Ahmad Alasmar reports that a group of Israeli settlers have been celebrating the establishment of the new Israeli [singlepic id=474 w=320 h=240 float=right]settlement “Bet Orot” since the early morning of Monday 31st of January 2011.
Mike Huckabee, who is the main candidate to lead the American Republican party, joined the celebrations to support the Israeli settlements building plan in the city. Other formal Israeli personalities such as the Israeli minister of science and technology and other Rightist Knesset members were present when the declaration was made about the beginning of the building the “Bet Orot” settlement.

CHANGE THAT MATTERS

It’s time for more Middle East leadership.[singlepic id=467 w=320 h=240 float=right]
The Palestine Papers — we can’t have a war or a secret cables media dump without a media friendly name — bolster that point of view. Captain Renault’s famous line in “Casablanca” that he was “shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here,” comes to mind: Just as Captain Renault was feigning surprise, all of the columnists and officials who now suggest that the leaked cables portray shocking and damaging evidence of the Palestinians’ weakness and occasional duplicity, the Israeli’s dismissive behavior and occasional insincerity, and America’s deference to all things Israel, either haven’t been paying close attention or have a story deadline or a political point to make.

Rightness, Justice and Law in the eyes of Israel: Meir Kahane is right too

Turkel commission is an Israeli committee that was made to investigate the Gaza flotilla probe and to give a statement about the legality of the Israeli naval [singlepic id=465 w=320 h=240 float=right]blockade of Gaza. Not surprisingly the first part of the report states that the blockade does not break the international law, it is completely legal and that there is no starving in Gaza and that the Palestinian human rights are protected.

The report is based on one claim: a state can control the transportation and movement of a territory that is outside its borders to protect its security. Beside that, the report states that Israel prevented any kind of starvation inside Gaza while holding a blockade on it from all the sides. The writers of the report

A New Arab Draft Resolution to Condemn the Israeli Settlements

Yesterday, the Arab states handed to the International Security council a draft resolution that condemns the Israeli settlements building in the West Bank [singlepic id=463 w=320 h=240 float=right]and calls to stop it immediately. The Arabs decision to start a new move to try to condemn Israel was made for many reasons that the condemning of Israel would not be a result of it because of the expected American Vito.

Eventhough the American Vito is expected, the Arab leaderships is trying to make any kind of movement that would show the American position towards Israel and make a development in the situation by bringing the International community into the ongoing argument between all the sides of the conflict.

Pro Israel Organizations: A Different View

So many Jewish organizations. So many pro-Israel organizations. So many readership risks to writing anything remotely negative about any of them.[singlepic id=462 w=320 h=240 float=right]
So I won’t. If you take anything below this sentence as unfairly negative, then you’re just too negative in imagining my supposed negativity.
I’m actually brave. Or so I was told by two people — although one was my wife and she needed a ride home — when I set up a meeting of 25 people to discuss different views on supporting Israel. So writing an article that very lightly touches on different aspects of various pro-Israel organizations shouldn’t be so tough.

The demolition started at 4:00 AM in the morning and continues until this moment. Following the demolition, clashes between Palestinian youth and settlers started in which the latter came to celebrate the demolishing of a historical building which was made in the beginnings of the last century.
