It seems that the Israeli leadership finds it hard to accept any kind of commitment to stop the settlements in East Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank. Prime Minister Netanyahu’s government does not agree on any kind of settlements freeze in East Jerusalem. Instead Prime Minister Netanyahu stated that the current Israeli government will continue to build in East Jerusalem exactly as the former Israeli leaders who have been building in the city since forty two years. In the last twenty four hours Israel and Syria were sending messages to each other explaining what kind of war they are expecting and which reactions would happen before, through, and after a possible war between the two states.

Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu stated tonight that any possible Palestinian state in the future will have to be surrounded from the east and the west by the Israeli army. According to Netanyahu the “Palestinian state” will also have Israeli army soldiers on its borders with Jordan in order to prevent weapons smuggling into the West Bank. In his speech he said nothing about Gaza as a part of the Future Palestinian state but assured that Israel will never make another mistake by leaving the Palestinian state without an Israeli surveillance. Israeli airstrikes resulted in killing at least four Palestinians in Gaza in the last 24 hours. One of those who were killed was a 15 years old boy and many were trapped under the ruins of the buildings which were destroyed. The Palestinian movements reacted by firing more than nine missiles into the Israeli areas.

The situation began to develop after the first Israeli attempt to assassinate a leader of one of the Palestinian movements claiming that he was on his way to launch missiles into Israel. The Palestinians reacted by firing back then Israel attacked Gaza strip again leaving another three Palestinians killed and several wounded. Read more…

Israeli and Egyptian leaders have met in Cairo to discuss US-backed efforts to relaunch peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.

Neither Binyamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, nor Hosni Mubarak, Egypt’s president, spoke to journalists after the meeting on Tuesday, though the Israeli PM’s office said “talks were in-depth and friendly”. Read more…

Recently the prisoner’s exchange which is being negotiated between Israel and the Palestinians became an interest for both sides. The Israeli rightist government found itself in a place where it cannot decide whether to make the deal or not. Prime Minister Netanyahu Is known for his statements abut the importance of not negotiating with what Israel considers “terrorist” groups. Obama invited Netanyahu to the White House after the Israeli PM landed in the US [Reuters]
The latest attempt by the US president to salvage the Middle East peace talks appears to have come to nothing after his meeting with Israel’s prime minister ended with only a brief statement from the White House.
Binyamin Netanyahu left the White House on Monday after spending an hour and forty minutes inside with Barack Obama, without making the customary public appearance with his host. Read more…

Kadima’s No. 2 MK consults legal experts on options for promotion of his plan for Palestinian statehood

Knesset Member Shaul Mofaz (Kadima), has appealed to legal experts outside of Israel to examine the possibility of holding meetings with Hamas operatives, as part of his plan for Palestinian statehood.

Secretary Hillary Clinton made several statements in the last couple of days while visiting Israel and Egypt. Clinton started its tour by saying that it is impossible to accept the idea of putting any kind of Palestinian conditions before negotiating with Israel. Clinton also stated that Israel do not have any law background to use in order to freeze the ongoing settlement building since it already issued permissions for them.

However, Clinton stated that there are Israeli promises not to issue new permissions for building settlements in the future. Read more…

Recently Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu stated that Israel would accept the idea of an Israel Palestinian peace only after the latter agrees on five conditions which Netanyahu stated. The five conditions are a recognition of Israel as a Jewish state, an agreement from the Palestinians that a peace treaty declares the end of all claims against Israel, no Palestinian refugees are to be allowed to return to Israeli territory, a demilitarized Palestinian state, and an International recognition of the demilitarization. On last Wednesday, Congressman Robert Wexler, who is a supporter of Israel and a close political ally of President Obama, stated that he believes that Israel will say yes to settlement freeze.
