Al Rai Kuwaiti newspaper reported that Israel is preparing itself to attack Hezbullah targets inside Syria. According to the newspaper, Western sources stated that Israel is increasing its army forces on its northern border with Syria and Lebanon. It seems that the current tension is not enough between Israel and Lebanon. Lately the Israeli official Landau threatened Lebanon for its latest claims about natural and gas resources that exist in the Lebanese sea and Israel continues to use. While the Palestinians live the sixty-two Nakbah anniversary, the Israeli settlers continue to attack Palestinians in the West Bank. Palestinian teenager Aysar Al – Zaban was shot by an Israeli settler while he was tending his family’s land at Mazra’a Al Sharqia village near Ramalla. The fifteen years old boy was killed although he was not even involved in the stones throwing in the area. Recently President Medvedev visited Syria and met President Bashar Alassad and Hamas leader Khaled Meshal. The Palestinian spokesman Saeb Erekat stated yesterday that indirect talks have started between the Israelis and the Palestinians. The Palestinian leadership was approved to start the indirect talks after the PLO, Fatah leadership and the Arab leaders gave it the green light to do so.
Senator Mitchell has played an important role in convincing the two sides to agree on starting the indirect talks. Prime Minister Netanyahu stated that indirect talks would not help in achieving a real peace agreement and that direct talks would be much better. The Palestinian leadership agreed on going to indirect talks only because of the American promises which were given regarding the Israeli settlements and a complete freeze of the buildings in East Jerusalem and the West Bank. After his meeting with Israel Defense minister Ehud Barak, Gates seemed to agree that Syria is providing Hezbullah with missiles and scuds. Gates commented saying: “Syria and Iran are providing Hezbullah with rockets and missiles of ever-increasing capabilities,” and that “Hezbullah has far more rockets and missiles than most governments in the world.”

The tensions between Israel and Syria are increasing after the former threatened to respond by attacking both Syria and Lebanon if Israeli territories would be attacked with scuds. Read more…
