Since his first day in office and until this moment Prime Minister Benyamin
Netanyahu continues to push Israel into war. The failure and weakness which the Israeli government is suffering from grows every day. The question is whether today’s circumstances are like the old days or will Israel find itself in war because of its government policy and get itself involved in a battle which will not be similar to its former confrontations? Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu stated tonight that any possible Palestinian state in the future will have to be surrounded from the east and
the west by the Israeli army. According to Netanyahu the “Palestinian state” will also have Israeli army soldiers on its borders with Jordan in order to prevent weapons smuggling into the West Bank. In his speech he said nothing about Gaza as a part of the Future Palestinian state but assured that Israel will never make another mistake by leaving the Palestinian state without an Israeli surveillance. Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit has been held by Hamas since June 2006 [GALLO/GETTY]
One never knows what to say about the on again, off again negotiations to free Gilad Shalit, an abducted Israeli soldier, and the seemingly unending media stories announcing an imminent deal.
But there are now enough serious signals that a deal is close, that it is worthwhile considering what could happen and its possible impact on Israeli-Palestinian relations. Read more…

Harvested organs were alleged to have been used by the military and in public hospitals [File: AFP]
Israel has admitted that it harvested organs from the dead bodies of Palestinians and Israelis in the 1990s, without permission from their families.
The admission follows the release of an interview with Jehuda Hiss, the former head of Israel’s forensic institute, in which he said that workers at the institute had harvested skin, corneas, heart valves and bones from Israelis, Palestinians and foreign workers. Read more…

Israel’s continued strikes on the Gaza strip threaten to derail peace processes in Iraq, Egypt, Lebanon and Syria. In this article, Gitanjali Bakshi presses upon the importance of addressing the Israel Palestine conflict if we ever want to see a more tranquil Middle East.
It seemed as though potentials for peace in what many consider to be the epicentre of the region had taken a hard enough blow with: the collapse of Hamas-Fatah peace talks in Cairo, a break down of a six month cease fire between Israel and Hamas, rioting by Israeli settlers in Hebron, a Read more…

Now, a few days after my release from jail in the wake of my trip to Gaza, I’m posting a few notes to sum things up.
First, the mission of the Free Gaza Movement to break the Israeli siege proved a success beyond all expectations. Our reaching Gaza and leaving has created a free and regular channel between Gaza and the outside world. It has done so because it has forced the Israeli government to make a clear policy declaration: that it is not occupying Gaza and Read more…
