The Betsalel Academy has celebrated graduating its students for the year 2010 last week. The ceremony included a show of the artistic and fashion works that the students made. An interesting phenonmenon that I saw in the ceremony was the Palestinian Arabs success and creativity in making fashion and artistic works that represented their history and feelings.

An Arab Student Nada Nafar made a seam garment that looked different and interesting. Once Nada was asked about her project she replied by saying: The cloth embraces the Human body, the house embraces the Human and the space embraces the house, the human, the culture and the identity. Read more…

After three years of blockade on more than one million and seven hundred Palestinians who live in the Gaza strip, Israel is considering an easement on the entrance to the strip but refuses to end the blockade. The Israeli decision to consider an easement on the entrances to Gaza was made after the worldwide criticism that was made about the Israeli policy regarding the Gaza strip and the late freedom flotilla incident that Israel killed in it nine peace activists while preventing it from reaching Gaza. While observing Israel’s latest action in attacking the freedom flotilla, one can reach a conclusion that Israel’s policy in using force will lead the area to war soon. The current Israel government has been working since several months to prepare for the next confrontation in the Middle East.

The Israeli army made several exercises and training to evaluate its capability in both launching a war and defending a possible attack in any moment. Not only this but the security forces have trained itself very well to know how to deal with the Israeli population while in war. More than 16 people were killed and dozens were injured when Israeli troops attack the aid carrying ships from sea and air while on their way to break the blockage on Gaza. The flotilla have hundreds of supporters and unarmed civilians who decided to join get on the ships and go to Gaza to try to break the siege which turned the life of the Palestinians there to become one of the worst in the world.

After two weeks of gag order on publishing anything about the arrest of Omar Said and Amir Makhoul, the Israeli press today stated that the two Arabs were arrested by the Shin Bet and are suspected of having communication with Hezbollah. Amir Makhoul is a well-known Arab leader inside Israel. Makhoul fills the position of the director general of the Itijah which is the union of Arab community based associations. Omar Said is also an active politician and a member of the Balad movement. Read more…

While U.S special envoy Mitchell is meeting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a group of seventy Israeli settlers are demonstrating in the Arab village Silwan in East Jerusalem.
The seventy settlers were given permission by the Israeli police to demonstrate in the Arab neighborhood with Israeli flags. The Palestinians considered this action an assault on the Palestinian presence in the city of Jerusalem and the result is a beginning of clashes which are taking place now and would expand to other parts of the city. Since the beginning of the Second Intifada many of the Palestinian politicians and leaders have opened a discussion about the right resistance which the  Palestinian must choose in order to succeed in creating the Palestinian State. Some criticized the use of violence and considered it a claim which Israel used to embarrass the Palestinians in front of the International community and turn them from freedom fighters into terrorists. It seems that the Israeli leadership finds it hard to accept any kind of commitment to stop the settlements in East Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank. Prime Minister Netanyahu’s government does not agree on any kind of settlements freeze in East Jerusalem. Instead Prime Minister Netanyahu stated that the current Israeli government will continue to build in East Jerusalem exactly as the former Israeli leaders who have been building in the city since forty two years.
