In the last twenty four hours Israel and Syria were sending messages to each other explaining what kind of war they are expecting and which reactions would happen before, through, and after a possible war between the two states.

Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu stated tonight that any possible Palestinian state in the future will have to be surrounded from the east and the west by the Israeli army. According to Netanyahu the “Palestinian state” will also have Israeli army soldiers on its borders with Jordan in order to prevent weapons smuggling into the West Bank. In his speech he said nothing about Gaza as a part of the Future Palestinian state but assured that Israel will never make another mistake by leaving the Palestinian state without an Israeli surveillance. Israeli and Egyptian leaders have met in Cairo to discuss US-backed efforts to relaunch peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.

Neither Binyamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, nor Hosni Mubarak, Egypt’s president, spoke to journalists after the meeting on Tuesday, though the Israeli PM’s office said “talks were in-depth and friendly”. Read more…

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned on Sunday that Israel would respond to any unilateral Palestinian steps – particularly declarations of statehood – with one-sided steps of its own.
This was the prime minister’s first response to a Palestinian initiative to ask the United Nations Security Council to endorse a Palestinian state, seen as an appeal for international backing. Read more…

Obama invited Netanyahu to the White House after the Israeli PM landed in the US [Reuters]
The latest attempt by the US president to salvage the Middle East peace talks appears to have come to nothing after his meeting with Israel’s prime minister ended with only a brief statement from the White House.
Binyamin Netanyahu left the White House on Monday after spending an hour and forty minutes inside with Barack Obama, without making the customary public appearance with his host. Read more…

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was set to tell U.S. President Barack Obama that he was “very serious” about wanting to advance peace talks with the Palestinians during the two leaders’ scheduled meeting on Monday.
The last-minute scheduling of Netanyahu’s White House meeting, after Israeli officials said over the past several weeks that Netanyahu hoped to see Obama, was widely seen as a sign of strained relations between the two leaders. Read more…

Recently Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu stated that Israel would accept the idea of an Israel Palestinian peace only after the latter agrees on five conditions which Netanyahu stated. The five conditions are a recognition of Israel as a Jewish state, an agreement from the Palestinians that a peace treaty declares the end of all claims against Israel, no Palestinian refugees are to be allowed to return to Israeli territory, a demilitarized Palestinian state, and an International recognition of the demilitarization. Would Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu say the magic words “two states” after his meeting with President Obama? All Israel held its breath. (He didn’t). The gap between the two is wider than those words could ever have bridged, however. Obama, I believe, sincerely – perhaps urgently – seeks a resolution of the Israel-Palestinian conflict, a pre-condition, he understands, to getting on with larger, more pressing Middle Eastern issues. Recently Israeli politicians were busy preparing for the meeting between President Obama and Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu. Doubts of possible pressure from the United States to oblige Israel to reach a peace agreement with Palestinians were felt.

                Netanyahu stated today that moderate Palestinians should be strengthened and radicals should be weakened. According to him it is impossible to discuss the possibility of holding negotiations for a two states solution currently.
