What Palestinians And Israelis Must Remember To Forget

image001

by: Jeff Pozmantier
The stars of the Middle East’s longest running two state play features the reliably myopic Israeli and Palestinian leadership-amnesiacs and their supportive minions — always willing to remember what hasn’t worked and forget what has.
Forty four years of off and on Israeli and Palestinian negotiations, surrounded by 63 years of battles with neighboring countries and the militant wings of various Palestinian groups, have contributed to inelastic memories and perceptions. Changes are seen as illusory or unsustainable.

In Search Of Leadership: Is There An Israeli or Palestinian Steve Jobs?

Ever had to reboot an internet connected toilet?
There is evidently a new $6,000 model that can pretty much run on autopilot…..at least when it’s working. The New York Times recently described the features and critical downside on your downside of a toilet that can, aside from fulfilling job number two, do it all for you.
Except when you lose that internet connection.

J Street Opposes Palestinian U.N. Move (And Grows In Importance)

How do you become just like the Free Soil, Whig-American, Constitutional Union, Populist, Progressive, States’ Rights, Reform and Green parties? You adopt an inflexible focus on a narrow set of issues. You refuse to compromise. You accept that your narrow focus naturally allows a much larger and more broad-based party to simply absorb your issues as their own. So you remain comfortably principled, small and largely uninfluential — if you

Was The Jerusalem Post Right To Fire Larry Derfner For Effectively Defending Terrorism?

by Jeff Pozmantier on September 2, 2011
My e-mail volume exploded once Jerusalem Post columnist Larry Derfner decided to commit career suicide.
He wrote that, “I think a lot of people who realize that the occupation is wrong also realize that the Palestinians have the right to resist it — to use violence against Israelis, even to kill Israelis, especially when Israel is showing zero willingness to end the occupation…If we were to say very forthrightly what many of us believe and the rest of us suspect — that the Palestinians, like every nation living under hostile rule, have the right to fight back, that their

How Alan Dershowitz and Palestinian Chicken Could Produce an israeli/Palestinian Spring

image003

Alan Dershowitz supposedly spent twenty six years researching and developing his arguments in his bestselling book,”The Case For Israel.” One imagines that, like Palestinian and Israeli leaders, he saw no particular need to pick up his pace. Plus, Dershowitz was likely simultaneously engaged in more pecuniary pursuits where guilt and innocence are more clearly and conclusively decided and prized over simple laboriousness.
The book is well researched, a little slow at times (and less germane) when Dershowitz goes Biblical and historical on us, but it is still an outstanding “if the glove

Standard and Poor Development

The less than shocking news that Standard and Poor’s had downgraded the land of the free, and home of religious revival events hosted by Texas governors (and soon to be presidential candidates), stirred my imagination.
The fact that the United States, the country responsible for 40% of the world’s stock market capitalization, is now reduced to having its leaders whine about alleged two trillion dollar analyst errors in a papier-mache budget that assumes an economic growth rate America has not seen for almost a

Almost Everything You Need to Know About The U.N. Vote on Palestine (And Six Magic Words)

“I will accept a Jewish state.”
According to Rabbi Marvin Heir, Dean and Founder of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, those are the six magic words that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas must utter before “there can ever be peace in the Middle East.” Saying them to his people and the rest of the world is supposedly the key that opens the door to negotiations with Israel. However, there is a not so small problem.

TOP 4.25 ISRAELI AND PALESTINIAN MYTHS (PEACE TALKS VERSION)

Your myth may be my truth (and vice versa), but then that’s the essence of the Israeli and Palestinian saga, so let’s plunge into the certitude abyss. Today’s [singlepic id=557 w=320 h=240 float=right]top 4.25 myths (and maybe your 4.25 truths) include my personal top three and 1.25 others courtesy of various emailers.
Some emailers (and one old-fashioned pen on paper geezer) have been kind enough to maintain issue consistency in their disagreement(s) with my previous articles; however, the ones who have been more pedantic have tended to be more entertaining and descriptive in trying to teach me the past, present and future. However, please allow me to suggest that if “self-hating” is the best you can do to describe your disagreement, you need to ”google” Mort Klein or go to his ZOA site so you can borrow his more reliably histrionic material.
