One expression, which can be found usually in Israeli leaders’ speech to the Israeli people, is “Deterrence”. Most of the Israeli decisions to go to war were made by considering the importance of deterrence and control by fear over the Middle East. When Israel suffered serious losses while leading wars against Lebanon, Gaza and even the six days war, the Israeli leaders used and continue until today to defend their decisions by claiming that it is a price which Israel must pay for the sake of empowering its deterrence power over the Middle East. After two weeks of gag order on publishing anything about the arrest of Omar Said and Amir Makhoul, the Israeli press today stated that the two Arabs were arrested by the Shin Bet and are suspected of having communication with Hezbollah. Amir Makhoul is a well-known Arab leader inside Israel. Makhoul fills the position of the director general of the Itijah which is the union of Arab community based associations. The Palestinian authority plan to build new associations in order to empower its control and economy faces a lot of obstacles in its way to  success. Not only that some criticize the plan itself because of a lack of political program which should come with it but it faces an anti Israeli plan which tries to prevent any improvement in it.

A few days ago two Arab students Ali Bhar and Nasser Odeh that study in the Hebrew university of Jerusalem were punished and humiliated because they refused to shake hands with the Israeli president Shimon Perez. The students were stopped by the security of the president and the university. Two days after the accident Ali’s dorms were searched and he was demanded to leave the dorms. According to the university Ali is to leave the dorms because he kept a nargilah (an Arab traditional smoking pipe) inside it. Read more…
