While looking at the current situation of the Palestinian people, one can easily see that there is a lack of leadership that is needed to continue the way to freedom and independence. The reasons may vary between the difficulty in changing the liberation movements into political parties and the failure of the programs which Fatah and Hamas suggested in order to get an independent Palestinian state.

While Israel continues to mind any serious negotiations with the Palestinians about the final and important issues, the Palestinian leadership made a visit to the White House and considered it a successful one. The Israelis are still suffering from the results of their use of violence while dealing with the Freedom Flotilla and an Iranian ship is on its way to support Gaza.

Although the Palestinian team considered its visit to the White House a successful one, there are no signs that anything has been achieved. In the last couple of days the Hebrew University campus in Jerusalem witnessed several demonstrations made by the Arab  students movements. The Arab movements Aljabha, tajamo, Abnaa albalad, Watan, Ikra and Alreslaeh called the students to participate in a demonstration which was made last Tuesday to demonstrate against Israel’s policy in East Jerusalem. The situation of the Arab youth in most of the Arab countries is in a bad shape. The obstacles which the youth are facing in their way to build the future are more than what they can confront. The continuous competition between the Arab governments and the oppositions results in putting boundaries for the interests and activities of the new generations. As many of you know in the past the Arab peoples were not given a chance to express their opinion and thoughts freely. Today some say that the situation is changing towards a better one and others consider the situation still not good enough to say that there is a freedom of speech in the Arab world. Recently the United States of America showed a brave and new change in its policy towards the Muslim world and the Israeli Arab conflict. This change was noticed in America’s view of the importance of finding a solution for the Israeli Arab conflict.

In her last statement, Tsipi Levni the head of the Kadema Israeli political party said that the Arabs of Israel shall enjoy expressing their national Palestinian and Arab identity inside the Palestinian state once it is established. This statement is a dangerous one since it means that Tsipi is drawing for the Arab citizens of Israel that were given this citizenship under pressure a frame that she wants them to stay inside. A few days ago two Arab students Ali Bhar and Nasser Odeh that study in the Hebrew university of Jerusalem were punished and humiliated because they refused to shake hands with the Israeli president Shimon Perez. The students were stopped by the security of the president and the university. Two days after the accident Ali’s dorms were searched and he was demanded to leave the dorms. According to the university Ali is to leave the dorms because he kept a nargilah (an Arab traditional smoking pipe) inside it. Read more…
