The Palestinian leadership hard decisions to make

Abu Mazen Khaled Mashal

Reports were talking lately about the President Mahmoud Abbas will to go to Gaza in the next weeks to declare a unity government with Hamas. Not only that but Azam ElAhmad who is a member of the Central Council of Fatah movement also stated in an interview with MA’AN news agency that there are several steps which will affect directly the nature of the relation between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.

It is still not clear whether we will witness an armed confrontation this year between Iran and the West or not. Analysts continue to write and talk about this matter while no one can give a real clear answer. There are many ongoing events which effect on the choices that the West and Israel have in order to prevent Iran from moving forward in its projects. The Iranians continue to defend their position by stating that it is legitimate to obtain nuclear capabilities especially that there is no proof for any kind of Iranian intentions to obtain nuclear weapons.

It seems that the Liberal thought is not interesting any more. Any solution that is suggested to solve international crises is seen as a weakness. Leaders nowadays prefer making statements that threat the other and think that what is called deterrence power and per-caution action are much better than going into diplomatic channels to find solutions. Extremism is widening everywhere whether when talking about Religion or Nationalism.

It is well known that whenever Jerusalem is mentioned, the words holy and faith always accompany it. In reality when talking about the situation of people and specifically the situation of thousands of Palestinians who are living under occupation since 1967, it is a different story. These people wake up every day to start a new round of challenges that are based on letting them doubt everything they have or think about.

The title that describes the current situation of the Palestinian situation today is “No Title”. It is true that the Palestinians nowadays are trying to regain unity within the lines of the Palestinian movements in order to reach a place where decisions would be made with a kind of agreement that would push things forward. Even though efforts are made in order to achieve such a thing, it is not clear whether there is a clear plan for the next level and which way will the Palestinians take in order to reach the goal that was set many years ago.

africa-middle-east

Ask yourself a question.

Which makes you angrier? Seeing Africa’s hunger and poverty and watching millions die? Or seeing the Middle East peace process set back time and time again, with potentially dire consequences for us all?

Not much to choose between the two perhaps. But at least on Africa a few pop stars have finally banged the politicians’ heads together and there might just be a chance of progress there. One big cheer for private initiative. One small cheer for governments, even if they are still dishing out our money and doing next to nothing about the despots who remain in charge of large parts of Africa.

I returned back from London longing to get back with my comrades on the front lines. I have been blaming them all for having too much action without me the past 2 month. The emotions, laughs, tears, anger, and pride I survived in my first week back home was more than I imagined.

First Friday back home I head to Nabi Saleh. A town resisting occupation on daily basis. I went there longing to meet all my friends, sorry not friends, all my family who we shared together weeks of injuries and arrests. Just to go back home at night and start planning for the next Friday.
