An Israeli Cease-Fire or a break for a while?
Tonight Israel declared a cease-fire from one side in Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said that the Israel army achieved victory in its war and the Hamas still does not recognize the damage that was caused for it. Prime Minister Olmert also said that this cease-fire will not include the withdraw of the Israeli army from Gaza and that these forces will stay until Israel sees that Hamas will not launch missiles on the south. Prime Minister Olmert said that if the Palestinian movements will attack any part of the south of Israel, the army will continue its actions in Gaza. He also said that the decision of cease-fire came as a response to the Egyptian president Mubarak demand.
The first reaction from Hamas came on behalf of Osama Hamdan who is one of Hamas leaders. Hamdan said that the Israeli decision to stop its war in Gaza proves the victory of the Palestinian resistance in Gaza. Hamdan also said that this speech is a failure that is made to try to give credit to his government that lost again the war as it lost it in Lebanon. Hamdan also said that Israel now does not know the destiny of the Israeli imprisoned soldier Shalit since he may have been killed in the Israeli strikes over Gaza. Hamas said that this cease-fire will not stop the Palestinian resistance.
The Israeli writer Gedon Levi said that Olmert declared victory after killing more than a thousand Palestinians in Gaza with a majority of children and women. Gedon also said that Israel failed to stop the Palestinian missiles on the south until this moment that in it Olmert says that he achieved victory. Gedon said that neither he nor anyone else can talk about victory when he sees the pictures of the killed children in Gaza. He also added that he feels ashamed that this war was made on behalf of him as an Israeli. However Gedon also said that this war won’t help a lot in the coming Israeli elections.
The Palestinian and Arab thinker Azmi Bsharah said that Olmert was trying to bring a different result that the one that he brought in the Lebanese second war. Azmi said that the fact is that Israel decided not to go deeply inside Gaza because it was satisfied with killing young children that stayed in the UNRWA schools and using fatal and illegal weapons such as phosphor. Azmi said too that this cease-fire was made with an agreement with Hamas because Egypt was directing negotiations between the two sides. Azmi said that since Israel decided to stay outside Gaza on the sides, now it has to deal with this situation in a different way. Azmi also said that Israel did not get any security promises to prevent the Hamas missiles. Azmi said that Israel is really in a mess since even if Hamas stops the missiles for a week, it will return to launch it because it considers Israel an occupier.
While reading between the lines, one may say that now the real court will start concerning the Israeli actions in Gaza. Even the Israeli community will have to judge this war and see whether it brought a victory as Olmert said or only more people that hate Israel and will believe in fighting it more extremely that before. The International community has to investigate what was done in Gaza because of the moral duty. However, the real question is whether this is a real cease-fire or a break from war because of the Israel coming elections and also to check whether Hamas will stop its missiles on the south.

I dont know where you hail from. But let me tell you, if it was not for the rocket it would have been something else. Israel has been itching to get rid of Hamas from the begining and yes Hamas provided them with the excuse. It is the right of the Palestinian to resist and if you want peace I suggest you start behaving like any civilised nations and let the Palestinian live their own life and control their own affairs. There is only a small matter of occupation, to resolve which the Israeli democracy has failed to do for the past 60 years.
As I said before, if this occupation was here in any part of the UK, you will be getting more than the odd rockets that are as indiscrimnate as the sugical strikes of the Israeli army.
