Brave.....
I believe you do have access to CNN.. In case you not sure...YES it is an americam TV station....
Please watch them and try to understand for yourself as to who broke the cease fire in November since you did not believe me when i pointed it out to you. Furthermore, in case your democratic government is witholding this information from you. A member of congress has demanded from the Bush Administration to explain why Israel has been allowed to violate the US Law in the use of the weapons provided by the USA. Since this administration is on its way out, guess what? The Obama administration will be investigating this. Remember, I have warned you that changes are afoot and you know what I am looking forward to? The fact that you will become a more informed person and realise the dis service your democratic government has afforded you. Media censorship has no place in a true democracy......agree or disagree BRAVE?

I understand your point and agree that it is certainly worth trying.
Unfortunately many efforts were made and negotiations were encouraged by Egypt and Israel but they were refused. This was a mistake on Hamas's part and they did not expect Israel to attack. This is something that even Hamas's most senior officials (Khaled Mashaal) condemn those in Gaza (Ismail Haniyeh) are arguing about.

Brave

I agree with you that Israel did negotiate with Hezbollah but the situation was different because it was negotiations on war prisoners and not negotiations to seek a political solution for a conflict.
The message that i want to send through this post is that efforts were not made enough to try to bring movements like Hamas into negotiations to mind violence.
The belief that Israel and the United States adopted was to mind negotiating with organizations like hamas in order to prevent them from gaining legitimacy. Tzipi Levni stated this a few days ago.
If Israel tried to include Hamas in any negotiations about the conflict since its first day work in the Palestinian government instead of boycotting it and putting a siege on it, the results may differ.
Now this is not as easy as it appears but it worth trying. Ira was convince after negotiations, Fatah changed, and many other organizations. But remember that i mean negotiations with results and not negotiations to gain time.

This notion of not negotiating with terrorist is an American one which Israel has been happy to adopt.
Look into history. Winston Churchill and the American President at the time met with the most notorious Murderer to negotiate peace. As you rightly point out,Israel themselves negotiated with Hizbollah. The British Goverment negotiated with the IRA. History has shown that this is the sole way tp peaceful co-existence.
The way to gain recognition from others is not through force, just like respect can be enforced it needs to be earned.

The idea that Israel does not negotiate with terrorists, as this article is supposes, is not true. Israel after all did negotiate with Hizbollah, an organisation that Israel does consider to be terrorist, in order to get back the two captured IDF soldiers last year. The deal caused much heartache in Israel as the deal involved the release of one of its most notorious prisoners along with 100+ other prisoners in return for the remains of 2 dead IDF soldiers.

Let it also be noted that there were no efforts made by Hamas to want to talk to Israeli officials. Assad of Syria is also known to not want to look Israeli officials in the eye despite Israeli offers to meet with him directly.
