Israel begins a new attack on Gaza with Ground Forces
A few hours ago Israel started a new stage of its attack on Gaza using ground forces. The Israeli leadership’s decision to make its attack wider on Gaza is considered more serious and dangerous since this decision may affect the whole region. Hamas leadership declared after two hours of the first invasion that its resistance killed and injured tens of Israeli soldiers.
The Israeli defense minister Ehud Baraq said that this new stage will be long and will include hard results in the lines of the Israeli army. Baraq also said that Israel will be ready to reply fiercely on any possible attack on the north. Hezbullah kept on preparing the Lebanese since three days for any possible battle with Israel. An Iranian official said that there is a kind of agreement between Iran, Hezbullah, and Hamas that says: if Israel decides to invade Gaza with ground troops, Hezbullah will start a new battle with Israel in the north. Hamas said that Israel is stupid to enter Gaza with ground forces since these forces will be buried in Gaza’s lands and streets.
These dangerous statements mean that if Israel invades Gaza it will bring into the ongoing war new sides such as Hezbullah, and Iran. The Israeli leadership used the strategy of not declaring the real objects of its attack on Gaza in order to mind any possible criticizing of a failure in achieving objects. The only stated object was that Israel wants to weaken Hamas, and then it was changed to end its ability of launching missiles, then finally to minimize the launching of these simple missiles.
It is clearly seen that Hamas is still maintaining its motivation in its fight with Israel, and the latter is still determined to keep on attacking Gaza until Hamas surrenders politically and not militarily to the Israeli conditions. This new stage in the ongoing war will only make the situation go out of control, and again the lack of wisdom in the Israeli leadership will result in a disaster in the region. The peace camps in both sides Israel and Palestine are boycotting each other and supporting their own sides of the war.
The Palestinian leadership stopped all the kinds of communications and negotiations with Israel and declared its new mission in uniting the Palestinian lines to face the Israeli attack. The international community is still minding any kind of needed pressure on Israel to stop the bloodshed in order to give it more time to achieve “victory” in Gaza. The International community seems to ignore the disastrous results of this operation in Gaza. New generations will commit their selves to revenge and belief in the use of force in this complicated and difficult conflict.
Killing 470 Palestinians including a twenty percent of children and women is not justified in any way. The use of a strong army to kill, invade, and to make a siege on a people in a small area like Gaza is a coward work and is against all the laws. The ignorant use of power only results in a disaster on its users and history taught us this.
Israel chose the choice of force to attack Gaza because of the simple missiles that targeted its south after a siege on the Palestinians in Gaza and resulted sometimes in causing casualties in the Israeli citizens, but the results of the Israeli operation in Gaza these days may leave many killed people and destruction in the north, the center, and the south of Israel. Again it is important to remember that Humans are worthy, violence brings violence, and war brings war.

Israel’s decision to invade and embark on ground incursion will surely have severe ramifications for both Israel and Hamas. I hope that Israel will shoulder the responsibility should this war widen to beyond the Gaza border. Whoever is right or wrong what is quite clear here is that neither party has shown to value human life. Whilst Israel response to a few rockets being fired on its territory might be seen as proper by its people and allies, Israel has not shown to value human life anymore than Hamas who they call a terrorist organisation.
My prayers are with all those caught in this massacre be it Palestinian or israeli. I am in no doubt that should this war escalate and spill over to other parts of this region, Israel will suffer as will others in this region. There can be no winners in this trap only losers. A few votes might be won at the expense of Palestinian blood, but the long term consequence of this Israeli action will sure come back to haunt them. This type of action will only lead to more radicalisation and create a new generation of people hell bent on revenge and settling scores.
I sit in disbelief in front of my television set at what is happening. If anyone feels that this will make our life safer wherever we may reside they are sadly mistaken.
Amid apparently hardening positions of both Palestinians and Israelis as Israeli troops pour into Gaza in the second phase of Israel’s offensive against Hamas, reading the tea leaves of statements by leaders on both sides of the divide shows that Israelis and Palestinians have moved not only a long way from the zero sum game they have been locked into for much of their intertwined history but they are also shifting positions , even if only in barely noticeable nuances, almost daily as they fight what they perceive to be an existential battle in Gaza.

There is unlikely to be an attack from Hizbollah in the north as they have realised they are not strong enough to take on Israel.
Hamas has not killed 10s of Israeli soldiers. So far only 1 IDF soldier has been killed with 34 injured.
There were not just “a few rockets” fired into Israel but over 10,000 over the past 7 years. No country in the world would tolerate this as long as Israel has done. Enough is enough.

As for the rockets falling on Israel….it matters not whether its 10 or 7000, its wrong….BUT we need to put things in context. What according to you is the reason why these rockets were being fired into Israel? As you rightly point out Israel has the 5th Best military force in the world…..so would Hamas want to wage war with Israel out of nothing? Under the International Law Hamas or any other Palestinian groups has the right to fight for freedom and defend their territory that Israel has occupied and continue to occupy. Just like Israel has a right to defend its citizen BUT within the remit of international Law not by waging war on a population that has no means of defending themselves.

Again, the war in Gaza is not being waged against the Gazan population. This has been said many times already and shown in the numbers of those killed that the war is not against the innocent people there.
Rockets were being fired into Israel from Gaza, despite a full withdrawal of Israel from this territory in 2005, due to Hamas’s raison d’etre to destroy Israel as described in Article 13 of the Hamas Charter (See posting on BraveJeWorld.blogspot.com).
Hamas has no interest in a peace deal. It is only interested in the total annihilation of Israel as seen by its Charter (a link to which can be found on BraveJeWorld).

In July of 2004, The International Court of Justice delivered an Advisory Opinion on the ‘Legal Consequences of the Construction of a Wall in the Occupied Palestinian Territory’. The Court observed that under customary international law as reflected in Article 42 of the Regulations Respecting the Laws and Customs of War on Land annexed to the Fourth Hague Convention of 18 October 1907, territory is considered occupied when it is actually placed under the authority of the hostile army, and the occupation extends only to the territory where such authority has been established and can be exercised.
The State of Israel raised a number of exceptions and objections,[9] but the Court found them unpersuasive. The Court ruled that territories had been occupied by the Israeli armed forces in 1967, during the conflict between Israel and Jordan, and that subsequent events in those territories, had done nothing to alter the situation. ‘All these territories (including East Jerusalem) remain occupied territories and Israel has continued to have the status of occupying Power.’
