Tsipi and the Late Modern Racism against Israeli Arabs

December 12th, 2008 > Ziad Khalil Abu Zayyad

In her last statement, Tsipi Levni the head of the Kadema Israeli political party said that the Arabs of Israel shall enjoy expressing their national Palestinian and Arab identity inside the Palestinian state once it is established. This statement is a dangerous one since it means that Tsipi is drawing for the Arab citizens of Israel that were given this citizenship under pressure a frame that she wants them to stay inside.

Tsipi Levni forgot that she is crossing all the red lines and is taking away rights that Israeli Arabs earn not only because they were turned into Israeli citizens by force, but also because they originally owned the land they lived in it before the establishment of the Israeli state. Even if one agrees with what Israel considers democracy, a citizen must be given the right of expressing any kind of national identity that s/he earned since birth.

Tsipi Levni wants to do what is worse than the transferring of the Arabs of the Israeli state because of her beliefs of turning Israel into a complete pure Jewish state. The Arabs that stayed in their lands after the 1948 war were obliged to turn into citizens of the Israeli state although they owned the lands they live on before the making of Israel. Not only that these Arabs are losing parts of their lands until today, not given full rights like any other Jewish citizens, and are being watched and treated differently by the Israeli state, but also are not welcomed to stay in their lands although they agreed to be citizens of their occupier state.

Tsipi Levni and many other Israeli officials seem to forget that the Palestinians are not demanding to liberate their people but their lands that were taken by force. The Palestinian Israeli conflict is built on the fact that Palestinians lost their lands that were taken by force, and even though that the Palestinian people agree to admit the existence of Israel on the 1967 borders, Israel continues to try to get rid of the Palestinians that live inside its lands and until today did not recognize the right of the Palestinians to live in a free and independent state inside the 1967 occupied lands. Although more than fifty Arab countries offered a complete peace agreement with Israel in exchange with an Israeli acceptance to make a Palestinian state, Israel until today didn’t make any kind of a formal statement of the possibility on agreeing on this suggestion.

I wonder whether Levni would suggest the same thing she suggested for Arabs, for the other Russian, European, American, Eastern, Ethiopian Jews that came originally from other countries to go and satisfy their feelings of national identity in the places they came from. Those Palestinians are the original owners of their lands and earn their nationality and right of free expression more than any other Israeli, so if Israel really wants to reach peace it should reconsider its strange thoughts that completely disagree with the minimum that is needed to find peace in the region. This problem that Israel is facing because of the Palestinians that are living in it, is not because of the Palestinians but because of the obliged citizenship that they were given and the lands and rights that they lost.
