Days are counting and the November peace conference is becoming closer. In these days the Palestinians and the Israelis are still negotiating in order to agree on something before going to Annapolis, so they can declare the achievement they want to reach. The real danger is what the extremists are doing from the both sides in order to make the people feel there is no chance for this conference and that its only an other meeting like all the ordinary meetings that cant bring any benefit neither to the Palestinians nor the Israelis. This is exactly what Hamas is trying to do so they can affect on the public opinion and leave Abu Mazen with no support when he goes to the conference. Although the situation is not really showing that something serious will be declared after this conference but still it will be the best start for  real continuous negotiations side by side with a full plan that includes improving the daily life of the Palestinian citizens and also assuring and working on the security of both Israel and the Palestinian territories. In Israel, the media generally is playing the worst show that would affect negatively on the public support that is needed to let any peace conference pass. Either in the radio or even in the television channels, one can always hear the same words saying that this conference is not serious and should not be taken serious. Some say that the state stands behind these media channels and is doing this on purpose, but here comes the question; why are they doing this and what is the benefit? The only benefit that the government can take advantage of is keeping the situation calm and preventing those extremists who would disagree and even work to destroy any attempts before they begin for any peace solution. And this is exactly what is needed to make negotiations secretly with no effects from the outside.Well what I really admired in the last week was a letter prepared by Israeli students from Jerusalem and also others who study in Jerusalem. This letter will be sent to Olmert and will ask him to sign a real agreement and find a real solution that includes Jerusalem in order to bring peace to Jerusalem. Until now almost 400 people signed on it and the number is increasing every day. These students call their selves “ A solution in Jerusalem – For the sake of Jerusalem….Students for the sake of a peace agreement” “‘פשרה בירושלים – בשביל ירושלים‘”. The great thing about this group is that none of them is related to any political movement or party, and they came out with this idea because of their daily life and the hunger to achieve something for peace. This kind of movements is like a sparkle that could change a lot. They reminded me of the day Yitzhak Rabin was killed when he was talking to millions of Israelis that gathered not for their political membership but for their real intentions for Peace, they stood and carried in their hands six words; “ No for violence – Yes for Peace” As I said before the change comes from the people, the ordinary people that build the state up, and this kind of work is a good sign for a change from the roots. It will be my honor and also the youth group honor to thank this group for the great work they are doing and will definitely make a change, even If in the beginning it will be a small change that will become bigger and bigger. I should ask from each one who reads this to go and sign on this letter they are doing and also help in joining them in their gathering on the 22^nd for the sake of peace that will be beside the Israeli Prime Minister house in Jerusalem. אולמרט, הגיע הזמן לפשרה בירושלים!

כבוד ראש הממשלה,

אנו, סטודנטים מירושלים והסביבה וצעירים תושבי העיר, קוראים לך לחתום בועידת אנאפוליס על הסכם שלום עם ראש הממשלה הפלסטיני, שיכלול פיתרון צודק ובר-קיימא לסוגיות המהותיות שעל הפרק, ונכונות לפשרה בירושלים.

אנו, שנולדנו אל תוך הסכסוך, שחווינו בתור ילדים את האינתיפאדה הראשונה, ובתור חיילים את האינתיפאדה השנייה, יודעים כי מחיר השלום הוא כבד, אולם מחיר המלחמה כבד יותר. אנו חיים בירושלים היפיפייה והשסועה, לומדים, עובדים ומבלים בעיר שהיא אולי הבעיה הסבוכה ביותר במו“מ שבין ישראל והפלסטינים. העיר ירושלים חשובה לנו - אנו אוהבים אותה, ומעוניינים לחיות בה את חיינו הבוגרים, לגדל בה ילדינו, ולקיים בה חיי חברה ותרבות. ואולם, כשם שהעיר משמעותית עבורנו, כך ברורה לנו חשיבותה האדירה לעם הפלסטיני, אשר רואה בה, כמונו, את בירתו הטבעית. אנו מאמינים כי ללא פיתרון צודק ורב-תרבותי לבעיית ירושלים, שייתן ביטוי לשאיפות הלאומיות של שני העמים, ויאפשר חופש דת ותרבות אמיתיים, ירושלים תלך ותשקע בפערים כלכליים וחברתיים, באפליה לאומית ובשנאה הדדית, ותהפוך לעיר של חומות וגדרות. לנו, שמתגוררים בעיר, ברור כי למרות הכאב הכרוך בכך, פשרה בירושלים הכרחית עבור עתיד ירושלים, וללא פשרה שכזו, לא נוכל להגיע להסכם עם שכנינו.

ועידת השלום באנאפוליס יצרה חלון הזדמנויות חד פעמי, ממנו נשקפת תקווה לעמי האזור. המצב האסטרטגי במזה“ת, הפרטנר הפלסטיני, הגיבוי הבינ“ל – כל אלו יאפשרו לך, במידה ותקבל החלטה אמיצה, לחזור הביתה עם הסכם – ולהיכנס להיסטוריה כמנהיג שהביא תפנית לעמו, ולא כאבן דרך נוספת במדרון של ייאוש והתפוררות חברתית. הסכם חדש, גם אם לא יכלול מפות ונספחים מפורטים, יפיח חיים בתהליך המדיני, יעלה את האזור כולו על נתיב של הידברות ויחזק את הגורמים המתונים ברשות הפלסטינית. מאידך, אם חלילה תסתיים הוועידה ללא הסכם, ותחזור מאנאפוליס עם מלמול שפתיים או הקלות סמליות, ייסגר חלון ההזדמנויות, ושני העמים יתדרדרו לעימות אלים נוסף. כשלון הועידה ישרת את אויבינו, ויספק דלק לאלו המנסים לגרור את האזור למלחמה כוללת.

כשהיינו חיילים בתקופת האינתיפאדה האחרונה, ומילאנו בגאווה את המשימות שהוטלו עלינו, נאמר לנו ע“י ההנהגה שהיית חלק בה כי אין פרטנר פלסטיני, וערפאת הוא המכשול שמונע מישראל להגיע להסדר שלום עם שכניה. שלוש שנים לאחר הסתלקותו של ערפאת, מונהגת הרשות הפלסטינית ע“י אדם פרגמטי, אמיץ, שהביע את נכונותו להגיע לפיתרון אמיתי של הסכסוך ולהתפשר בסוגיות מהותיות. גם אנחנו רוצים מנהיג אמיתי, החותר לסיום הסכסוך, גם במחיר ויתורים כואבים.

כבוד ראש הממשלה, רגע האמת מתקרב.
