Israeli Army and Hezbullah continue to threaten each other

Following the recent incident on the borders between Israeli and Lebanese last week that resulted in killing three Lebanese soldiers and one Israeli officer, [singlepic id=280 w=300 h=220 float=right]the Israeli army continues to send threaten messages to the Lebanese army leadership.

The Israeli army leadership ordered its soldiers on the borders to respond fiercely to any Lebanese action that similar to the incident that took place last week. The Lebanese army shot several warning shots in the air in the last week when an Israeli army unit tried to remove a tree and make some actions on a territory that is considered Lebanese by Lebanon leadership. Yesterday the Americans ordered to suspend any aid that is given to the Lebanese army until the latter relation with Hezbullah Lebanese movement is investigated.

Brigadier General Yossi Heimen sent a clear message to the Lebanese army leadership that the Israeli army would respond four times stronger than the last incident last week if Lebanon acts as it did recently. The Israeli army insisted on calling the Lebanese army as a traitor power that did not respect the agreements that were made between it and the Israeli army through the Unifil. The Israeli army considers the Lebanese army as a power that cannot be trusted anymore.

A few days ago Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah who is the head of Hezbullah Lebanese armed movement stated that any attack on the Lebanese army would be considered an attack on Hezbullah itself. Nasrallah also stated that Hezbullah would respond fiercely to any Israeli attack on the Lebanese soil. Yesterday Nasrallah made a media conference that showed several proofs of Israeli actions inside the Lebanese territories including assassinations and armed operations against several Lebanese figures. Nasrallah claimed that the proofs he showed prove that Israel is used to target Lebanese important personalities and that there is a high chance that former Lebanese president Al-Hariri was assassinated by Israel.

Eventhough both sides continue to threaten and blame each other of a possible war in the near future, none of them acted similar to the past in order to mind a complete confrontation that would cost a lot. Eventhough there is no war on the borders, both sides are fighting each other in another world. Hezbullah is suffering from international pressure and accusations of standing behind the assassination of Al-Hariri. Israel is still left without a clear decision about how to deal with the threat of Hezbullah on the borders and whether a complete confrontation is possible in a time where Syria, Iran, Hamas and Hezbullah are all connected to each other.

The investigation which Prime Minister Netanyahu and Minister Ehud Barrack took part in regarding the Flotilla incident is showing how much does the current Israeli government lack experience. In the beginning, Netanyahu tried to blame minister Barrack by claiming that he was abroad and that the ministers’ council did not discuss the matter deeply and concentrated on discussing the media effect. Barrack stated that the decision to start the campaign was right but the obstacles were in the way everything was performed. In other words Barrack tried to blame the army and Netanyahu tried to blame Barrack and no one wanted to take responsibility and face consequences similar to those after the Goldstone and Winograd Reports.

On the Lebanese side, Hezbullah did not respond to the Israeli action that resulted in killing three Lebanese soldiers or even to former incidents such as assassinating Emad Mughnyeh. This does not mean that Hezbullah is weaker but on the contrary it’s becoming stronger with the support of Syria and Iran.

It is not a matter of abilities since both sides have enough abilities to launch a war or allow a ne confrontation that will cost the people a high price….It is a matter of time and a political decision that not only Israeli and Lebanon take part in it but many other actors in the area and the world.
