When Motherland calls…the spirit of national action must meet the appeal
One of the most important problems, which came as a phenomenon side by side with the process of building the Palestinian state is corruption. Corruption
started to exist not only in financial matters but it also took place in the soul of the national and volunteer action which are supposed to be the basics of the process of building a state and getting freedom.
The Palestinian national movements failed in facing the new stage, which they went through after Oslo accords and the last Parliamentary elections. The young generations, which are supposed to become the future leadership of the Palestinian people, found no place for them to develop themselves and feel that they can lead. One of the tools that unfortunately were used to control their thought and national growth was seducing them with the idea that everything they would make must be paid.
The Palestinian people is still far away from the Palestinian state since the latter needs a lot of work and effort. Many thought that funding projects and paying the budget of the Palestinian authority would be enough to assure a Palestinian state that would be good to serve the needs of the Palestinians and embody their dream of gaining their freedom. The current situation indicates that the Palestinian community and even the strategy that is currently used to reach a Palestinian state is in trouble. The Palestinian community is suffering from many problems whether in education or cultural or behavior or even in political and philosophical thought.
The Palestinian case is neglected from its own sons and daughters. The reason is not because they had enough or lost faith in their belief of their right in having their own state and freedom; the reason is that they fall in the trap of a corrupted capitalism system that demands from them to work day and night only to assure that they will be paid enough in the end of the month to assure their food and residence. The private sector in the Palestinian economy is not observed and despite all the financial support that the Palestinian people is given, it still suffer from hard conditions.
The problem is that the idea of a Palestinian authority and the associations of what is called the “future” Palestinian state became a factor that weakens the soul of national and volunteer action that the Palestinians themselves must have. In the beginning of the Palestinian revolution there were a few students who had no money and were not recognized by any of the Arab states that decided to create a body that would represent the Palestinian people. This body that is called today the PLO used to be an organization that is built on the basics of national and volunteer action. The dream of a Palestinian state and the liberation of the Palestinian territories was imagined by depending on the national spirit of brave men who decided to sacrifice everything for the sake of the Palestinian case.
Today we lack such men and we lack such a spirit that we are in need in order to be united and to build a real Palestinian state and community that enjoys real democracy, pure economy and volunteer spirit that assures a bright future for the Palestinian people. Instead of begging for financial support and establishing NGOS which became tools to gain money instead of supporting the Palestinian people, we should work hard in order to educate our young generations that when their motherland calls they should not ask about it can give them but instead work hard to give it everything they can.
