Palestinians continue their boycott of Israeli settlement’s products
Recently the Palestinian authority, community leaders and Political movements have started a new kind of resistance against the Israeli occupation. The [singlepic id=233 w=320 h=240 float=right]Palestinian authority stated that Israeli products that are made in Israeli settlements are not allowed into the Palestinian territories.
The Palestinian workers who are employed in the Israeli settlements factories were asked to leave their work. At the same time the Palestinian authority succeeded to bring fifty million dollars to support those who are currently without work because of the new decision that does not allow them to work in the settlements. The Palestinian authority latest plan to fight the Israeli settlements is witnessing great support from the Palestinian people. The awareness within the Palestinian people of the importance of boycotting products that are made by occupation exists. The Israeli factors started to feel the effect of the Palestinian boycott of their products. The Israeli government started to act in order to create a pressure on the Palestinian authority to withdraw its decision.
Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu stated that the Palestinians are only affecting their own economy and that their recent actions prove that they are not interested in improving their economical situation although Israel offered several opportunities to improve the economical peace that can be achieved. The Israeli media tried to create a fear within the Palestinian lines by stating that in the future, the Palestinians will be suffering from unemployment and they will not be able to provide the Israeli products which are not allowed into the Palestinian territories.
Although Israel is trying to do everything it can to prevent the ongoing boycott campaign from becoming wider, the Palestinians continue to work in order to apply the new law which is consider important to assure an independent economy that is a part of the future Palestinian state. Not only that boycotting the Israeli settlements’ products is important for the economy of the Palestinian people, but also it is also important to remember that these products are made on occupied territories that the Palestinians should be using to create their own products and industry.
The Israeli leadership forgot that it is completely against the law to use the occupied territories for bringing benefit for the Israeli economy. However, it seems that one of the main reasons that makes Israel continue in its occupation of the Palestinian lands is the benefit which it brings by using the Palestinian lands to create products which are also sold to Palestinians. Instead of threatening the Palestinians of the consequences of their lawful boycott of products that are made by the occupation itself, Israel should consider withdrawing from these lands that are a property of the Palestinian people. The recent awareness and courage step to decide such decisions leaves a hope that assures the possibility of establishing a real Palestinian state that is completely Palestinian.
