The Palestinian Case and Neo – Imperialism
The Palestinian authority plan to build new associations in order to empower its control and economy faces a lot of obstacles in its way to [singlepic id=138 w=320 h=240 float=right] success. Not only that some criticize the plan itself because of a lack of political program which should come with it but it faces an anti Israeli plan which tries to prevent any improvement in it.
The economical plan which is supposed to bring the Palestinian authority in two years to a better place where it can work is a considered a threat on Israel since it will put it in a questioning place in the eyes of the International community. The Palestinian authority plan which includes changing the whole situation of the security forces, putting new educated employees in the ministries, and improving the security situation in the West Bank came with other steps and reactions.
The argument is that some consider such a plan a good thing which will the change the daily life of Palestinians and make them live in a real state. Others considered this plan as something which should not happen before achieving real freedom and independence for the Palestinians.
No matter what the argument is, Israel looks at the situation from a different perspective. The Palestinian new security arrangements are never enough in the eyes of Israel. It continues to keep its right in entering the West Bank territories whenever it wants to assassinate or imprison Palestinian activists. Such Israeli moves put the Palestinian plan in a challenge with its opponents. Not only that it reduces the support for it but it also makes those who are in charge lose hope in any improvement.
The real Israeli strategy is similar to what we can call Neo – Imperialism. Imperialism continues indirectly by trying to control all the associations of the Palestinian authority, preventing any support for it unless certain demands are acknowledged, and insists on separating the new formed security forces from its leadership in order to assure that any change in the future would happen without an obstacle.
Although it may seem healthy to make a separation between the associations of any authority, the situation of the Palestinian authority is different. In this case, it is not an independent state; the security forces which are being trained do not have one leadership which takes its orders directly from the president or the prime minister. The interfering in the work of the associations of the ruling regime does not exist only within the Palestinians, but unfortunately in most of the Arab world. The post colonial situation exists until today since most of the Arab countries failed in achieving real independence.
A plan which promises to improve the economical situation, build the associations of the Palestinian authority and community, develop democracy and assure security is a plan which every Palestinian is in need of. However, the challenges which are in the way of such a plan make it hard to be applied. The lack of a target makes the people move with no direction. Beside this, the national occupation which exists currently within the Palestinian people makes everything impossible.
Oslo agreement was supposed to be the tool which the Palestinians use in order to come back to the occupied territories, continue the struggle until the rights are returned, and support the Palestinian people and their resistance in order to end the occupation. Working on one thing and leaving everything else will only bring more difficulties and disagreements. The main reason which resulted in the Palestinian division was and continues to be the race to govern.
Not only that Hamas and Fatah are divided but both of them suffer from internal divisions which are putting both of them in challenges with themselves. How come we cannot distribute ourselves to work in all the fields we need for our future state. If the final goal we want to achieve is a Palestinian state then why we cannot find a plan which includes the employment of every Palestinian in order to develop the Palestinian situation from all its sides.
The reason we cannot is that we are currently under a new kind of imperialism which is governing all the Palestinian political parties without any exception. In the past the Palestinian leadership and people were known for their skills in employing the whole world in order to support the Palestinian case. Today the Palestinian working parties became rivals with each other because of the affect of Imperialism which is ruling it and preventing any kind of improvement…towards a Palestinian state.
