In the last two days we noticed a change in the Syrian and Hamas attitudes and opinions about going forward toward peace and silence in the Middle East. Yesterday and today several Syrian sources talked about the Israeli offer of withdrawing from the Golan in order to make complete peace with Syria.
From the other side Hamas today said that they agree to stop launching missiles toward Israel and prevent any attack on it in Gaza if Israel agrees to stop the assassinations and the attacks on Gaza. Egypt is involved in the negotiations and is supposed to bring the Hamas offer to Israel.
Iran today sent a serious message to Syria reminding how dangerous it would be to cooperate with the United States of America or follow any illusions of peace with Israel. In their meeting together Iran sent this message to all the states in the region including Syria.
A serious change or what also could be considered improvement in peace talks is noticed but what lies under these acts could be much more serious. Hamas may be going into this temporary settlement with Israel only to gain the chance of empowering itself by bringing more weapons and also proving that they can achieve something for the sake of the Palestinian people by bringing them peace in Gaza for a while and also ending the siege on them.
Syria from the other side is not clear about what it wants from these statements and Israel too didn’t confirm any of the statements that were brought to the Syrians.
Iran could act too to prevent the success of any of these opportunities by simply making Hezballah to act at the boarders between Lebanon and Israel; such an act could result in changing the whole situation into war.
Soon things will become clearer and it will be possible to see if really Israel wants to reach any peace agreement with Syria with all the internal difficulties that it may face once it decides to leave the Golan, and Iran’s next step will be seen considering its power in the region and its acts to prevent any step towards settling down matters with Israel.
At this time political actions are being made by all the sides that are involved in this conflict and the smarter is the one that will come out with the less damage.
