Signs of Peace…

Recently we noticed some new moves in order to achieve improvement in Peace in the Middle East. For the first time Jimmie Carter which is an American met with Hamas leaders and talked about what would be done to end the siege on Gaza and achieve a peace agreement.

The surprise was that Khaled Mashal which is the leader of Hamas told him that Hams is ready to accept a Peace agreement that includes the establishing of a Palestinian State in the sixty seven boarders, agree on the right of the Israelis to live in an Israeli state beside the Palestinians, and also give the chance to Mahmoud Abbas the Palestinian president to achieve something in the Peace talks without making it more difficult on him.

If we go back in time to the day Hamas won the Palestinian elections, we should remember that Israel, the United States, and the Palestinian President demanded from Hamas to admit the Palestinian treatments that were signed with Israel, and also admit their right in living in an Israeli state; this was refused to be admitted by the Hamas leader and the reason could have been the way they were asked to admit it as if they were threatened.

Jimmie Carter succeeded in bringing this confession from them only in a short meeting of some hours. The reason could be that Carter really wanted to try to do something for the Peace process, or maybe Hamas leaders found in him the attention they always wanted from the west.

The PLO started its history by believing that the only solution in the Israeli – Palestinian conflict is to vanish all the Israelis and that only a Palestinian state must be made on the land of Palestine.

Also the Israelis believed including Isaac Rabin believed in the first eighties Intifada that by using force and breaking the hands of the children that through stones security can be brought to Israel and the Palestinian dream could be destroyed, but later they found out that this people has the right to rule itself.

True negotiations should be done with all the different directions in order to achieve true long term peace that satisfies everyone. The will for peace is important because if we are going to negotiate only to prove that we want peace then we are only acting in a movie.
