In every conflict every side of it see things in a different way than the other; if we look at the Israeli Palestinian conflict and see how each side define the acts of the other one, then we may understand why it is hard to achieve peace between them.

For example the checkpoints that Israel put in the West Bank and Gaza are used to assure the security of the Israelis according to the Israeli point of view. From the other side if we go through these checkpoints and see how the Palestinians and even the Arab Israelis are treated while passing through it then the whole story looks different.

Today I had to go through the Bethlehem checkpoint after a short visit to the city, I reached the soldier who was standing and supposed to check my car, it took her like ten minutes to start checking me after a long discussion with his college about their personal life so I gave him my Identification Card then she asked from me to open the back door of my car while shouting at me and treating me as if I was an animal.

 I tried to explain for her that while she is working as a soldier she is representing her state and should be polite with the people who are going daily through these checkpoints if really the reason for these checks is to maintain security for the Israeli citizens, but the surprise was that she answered that her duty is to shout at people like me and she doesn’t care if I am humiliated or satisfied.

In an other discussion with an Israeli in an other place, she tried to give excuses for killing the children in Gaza that died because of the Israeli air strikes at the city; she said that either these children die as victims or so many other Israelis may die on the other side.

The reason that peace can’t be made easily is that the ideology and education that a lot of the Israeli people have is that Peace can be brought by killing all those terrorists and bring security in their own hands, and that there is no chance for any peace with a Palestinian partner. Although that the results were completely different even after using this method, they keep on believing in it.

 Peace can be brought by changing the old beliefs that the people in the Middle East have, Peace can be achieved if we remember that we are facing other humans in our conflict and not aliens from the space, Peace can be achieved if we work together and make it the purpose of our life.
