Jerusalem is Under Attack
Yesterday the city of Jerusalem witnessed clashes between Palestinian prayers and occupying Israeli soldiers who turned the city into a military based. Muslim prayers were attacked while they were praying, tens were arrested and the Mosque is closed until a further notice. The Israeli
Police declared that the Aqsa Mosque will be closed through the day and stated again through the day that the Mosque will be closed also today. Muslims are not allowed to enter the mosque and pray while hundreds of Israeli buses are transporting Jewish prayers to the Western Wall.
The events began when young Muslim prayers refused to leave the Aqsa after witnessing a group of Jewish settlers who were preparing to enter the Aqsa mosque while being protected by Israeli policemen. Last week witnessed a similar attempt when tens of Jewish settlers tried to enter the Aqsa and were stopped by the Palestinians who were staying inside the mosque.
The Islamic Waqf officials stated that Israel is planning to divide the Aqsa mosque by trying to create a new habit of entering Jewish settlers to pray inside the Mosque. These events resulted in creating a great anger between the Palestinians and the Arab world in general and reminded them of Ariel Sharon’s visit to the Aqsa mosque which resulted in starting the second Intifada.
The streets of East Jerusalem were completely closes and the gates of the Old city were filled with Israeli policemen and soldiers who were preventing the people from reaching the mosque. Jordan considered any attempt to attack the Aqsa mosque a red line which cannot be crossed. The Palestinian movements demanded from the Palestinians to be prepared and to be ready to start a third Intifada in order to protect what is considered the heart of the Palestinian Case; the Aqsa Mosque.
Israel continues to ignore the international law and Human rights by continuing to prevent the Palestinians from praying freely in their Holy places. This is only another part of the whole Israeli plan of turning Jerusalem into a Jewish city with no Palestinian presence. The situation in Jerusalem today is more difficult than before and people are incapable of tolerating the occupational policy which is making it harder for them to live with dignity and enjoy what is considered the basic human rights which everyone should be given.
Although the situation is similar to the time before the beginning of the second intifada, the world is continuing to ignore the Palestinian voices which are demanding from the International community to interfere and stop the Israeli hostilities on both the holy places and the Palestinian people. This leaves one choice for the Palestinians which is to stand up and defend themselves but then the whole world will suddenly wake up and blame us for not reaching a political solution with Israeli exactly as it happened after the failure of Camp David talks.
The world should understand that the Aqsa mosque and Jerusalem are the heart of the Palestinian case and any attempt to try to take them from the Palestinians will be faced with an Arab and a Palestinian reaction which will affect the whole area. Prime Minister Netanyahu continues to talk about peace and his will to live side by side with the Palestinians but the way he sees this solution is completely different from any reasonable way which may give the Palestinians the least of what is left for them.
The whole free world must move to put an end for these attacks in order to prevent a new circle of violence which will not only result in more victims but will make sure to erase the idea of peace and possible solution from the minds of each Palestinian, Arab, and Muslim.
