Lessons In Leadership XV – The Reason we live

September 28th, 2009 > Ziad Khalil Abu Zayyad

Some of us find a reason to live for while many follow other’s reasons without acknowledging this. The nature of our life today implies on us to act in a specific way in order to succeed in moving forward in a system which was already prepared for us. Modern life demands from those who want to succeed in it to live in a specific way in order to gain it. In former ages people used to ask questions about different things…things like the reason we exist, religion, science, behavior, fake and true values. Today people are busy either with bringing the essential needs for their families or working hard to take part in the leadership of a Modern life which they never participated in designing it.

We lost our values or the values of those who lived before us and try to create new values which allow us to justify our needs and actions. A war for example can be launched today in the name of democracy while its real reason is colonialism. A young lady could be killed in the name of honor while the one who killed her did this only to satisfy his ego and his community. An occupation could be turned into a legal regime and those who are occupied could be made terrorists because the occupiers are smart enough to lead in “Modern Life”.

Civilizations could clash with each other and turn the world into hell while religions are still used as reasons for launching wars and attacks that cost humanity the death of thousands of people.
Some of us find a warm place to live in while others in Africa and the rest of the world lose their children every hour, find no water or bread to eat and simply suffer with no reason. Great Alexander wanted to unite the world and mix cultures with each other and his faith was to fail. Leaders who came before and after him with Real reasons for life were either abandoned or killed and the reason was their wish to unite the world. Today we suffer from similar clashes and conflicts.

Not only that we live international conflicts but we also enjoy the leading of conflicts with people who live around us. Challenge and Competition made us forget about the truth of who we are and we became the slaves of our demands. We forgot that challenge comes with many other things such as honor, respect and loyalty.

Most of us lose the opportunity of living a life of their own by simply following the reasons of others. The essence of life is to find a reason to live for. This reason exists in everything; a man or a woman to live for and a true love to find which most of us lost, a family and a child to see in them the beginning of a life which you never saw before, a country and a world to serve and thank for the chance which it gave you to live in, a nature to study and examine the greatness of the creator who made it, and every other thing you are a part of.

It is true that the world will never live in complete peace but it is also true that you can enjoy your life and give a chance to others to enjoy it by accepting the other side. If values were made only to make us lunch wars on each other then Shakespeare’s question about values in Falstaff’s questions in Henry IV play and Troilus of Troy are answered.

If Humans understood God differently through his different messengers and religions this does not mean that the creator wants us to keep on fighting until the end to prove who is more loyal. These are the actions of the devil himself since our personal needs made us use God to justify our wars and competition with each other.

If we can only pause for a second and look at the world as one place which we all live in we may understand what we are missing and what could be made a reason to live for. Enjoy every moment you live although it may be happy or sad because you will finally understand the meaning of life by living in all its sides.
