Lessons in Leadership XIV – Perfection and Illusion

Perfection is one thing that many of us seek but no one did obtain. It is a game which could end by turning a normal man into someone who finds himself far away from reality and normal behavior of humans. Many writers and philosophers tried to explain perfection by describing it or by looking at the end of those who wanted to achieve it.[singlepic id=57 w=320 h=240 float=right]

Shakespeare said: “But no perfection is so absolute, That some impurity doth not pollute.” While David M Burns said: “Remember that fear always lurks behind perfectionism. Confronting your fears and allowing yourself the right to be human can, paradoxically, make you a far happier and more productive person.”

The question is what is the reason which pushes us to think and believe that we can make everything perfect…Can we do this and what are the risks of trying this way? Perfection could become an addiction which is harder to treat than any other thing.

Those who could start this journey into achieving perfection are usually those who are successful and want to achieve more. This game is dangerous and once someone is into it he or she will be controlled by the illusion of achieving perfection. It starts by convincing yourself that you can do everything in a way that will be perfect and nothing will be wrong with it…you try to seek purity and perfection in a way that you see everything possible to be in this way. The problem is that no matter what you do, you will never reach perfection because you will be in a circle moving around while thinking that there is something left which you can do in order to reach perfection.

There is nothing out of the game since you will start to turn everything into a perfect thing. The problem is that you will be playing this game alone with no other participants to remind you that you are doing something with no end or goal. At this point exactly you would start to direct a dialogue with yourself trying to convince the OTHER you that you can still do what you started. This may sound scary or crazy but many of us could be living in this state without feeling it. Some understand that they are doing nothing more than leading themselves into craziness and illusion but they keep on doing it because they are simply lost in this word of….perfection. Once you start this journey everything you used to be brilliant in creating will become less and your concentration will be lost on other things which hold no value.

We are taught about purity and perfection through philosophy, religion, community, and the fiction which we create in our minds. Perfection could be something which is completely different from what we learned. Usually God is considered the only perfection in the universe so why don’t we learn about perfection from the way God created the universe? We all know that God created us with something called a free will and at the same time he knew what our choices will be. If God is perfect then everything he made is perfect including us and the way we create things. The two major elements which we use in describing most of our life are positive and negative such as in Good and Bad, Right and Wrong, purity and impurity, expensive and cheap, war and peace, and many other things which we give them two faces.

If God is the only one which we know that he is perfect and he is the creator of all of these things then perfection could be made by joining everything he created. If we join success and failure in our life, then maybe we will be on our way to reach perfection but taking one side and leaving the other will only give us a chance to live half of what god created and in other words half of the “Perfection”. The secret is in trying to find a balance between the positive and the negative in order to prevent ourselves from staying on one side. It is important to know failure in order to be motivated to reach success.

Trying to live on one side of the world will make us lose the lead and become slaves to our illusion of creating perfection in the way we want to see it instead of the way nature and the universe want us to see.
