Lessons in Leadership X – To Be, or Not To Be

Ego is one thing which affects our life and decisions. Many people would prefer to keep on trying alone to do something although they know that they lack information and the skills needed to achieve this thing. Our Ego tries to convince us that we can do anything without any help because we simply know everything and of course we are the best. Therefore, we may not accept someone’s help because we do not want him or her to be better than us.

The word “better” makes us believe that if we seek help then we will not be the best. We are ready to waste more time on something in order to say in the end that we did it alone. The truth is that nothing of what I just mentioned is right; if it is right then how did we learn to walk, talk, eat, or drink since our birth? We are given many gifts and skills which we need to develop and discover in ourselves so we can use to achieve our goals in life. The journey of discovering these skills cannot be made while depending only on ourselves.

We are supported by our families, friends, and the knowledge which we get from other sources such as philosophers and great people from other ages. This does not mean that any of these is better than us; it is simply that they know something and we can learn from them to become greater.

There is always something which motivates us to go out and learn in order to achieve and this thing also pushes us to think of something that we want to achieve in our life like discovering something new in science, or improve something in a community, or lead in business and other fields. This motivating thing differs depending on the case but of course has the same basis: it is the question which many asks since the old times; to be or not to be, to move and work hard to feel that you did something or to sit down and let time pass without doing anything.

It is easy to start your journey by believing that you want to achieve something but what is important is what comes before that and after it: what is essence of what you want to achieve and how far can you go forward with it? In other words we can simply be motivated by something which already exists like serving a certain system, belief, laws, master, religion or many other things but the question is whether this thing that we want to develop is the right one which describes us and our free will. Most of us who Step Up do not set a new standard for themselves because of the influence of their surroundings.

They may succeed in what they spend their life on it because find out in the end that this was not what they really want. Some would say that it is impossible to create a complete new standard and work upon it because we are influenced by what surrounds us since our birth. It may sound true in the beginning but even the past proved that many succeeded in creating something new and finding what really brings a new taste that no one found before.

It is always possible to search for something new which turns out to be what you really want but this can only happen if you believe in it and have the power to overcome all the regulations and obstacles which may stand in your way. This is the second important issue in your way to glory and success; how to keep on going with all the difficulties which you may face. You simply remind yourself of the gifts which you have, the gifts which you can give, and the moments of victory which you can only live if you continue your journey in finding it.

Remember that if you disagree with others about something which already exists this may make you look irregular but most of those who disagreed with what used to be considered right in their times are those who became extraordinary and achieved more in everything. It may be good to end by inviting you to Defy the Odds, Set A New Standard, and Step Up.

Well, those who succeed are those with the less talking and more acting. one cant be anything till he do something, and he will be recognized and be judged by people if he act.. and the “to be” thing is connected to the thinking part..i can act so i can be, but to be in the real meaning is to be something great …not only the act of being but also the act of being great. therefor “to be” is connected to “to think” which means to exist. and when i think, i can be what i want. “we only exist in the eyes of those who love us and hate us”…

i like ur article, also the new desgin of the web…

  2. Muaz,
here is what i think about what you wrote…it is an interesting discussion :)
i think that you are right regarding the issue of acting more than talking. However, i think that talking a lot could be considered a kind of acting since it may encourage people to act :) philosophical talk..
Definitely there will be someone who will try to judge you once you act since your action may contradict with his or her actions or simply you will create a kind of competition that the other one will try to prove that he or she is better in.
The sentence “to be or not to be” is an interesting one which i prefer to look at from a Shakespearean point of view :) i just love Shakespeare! Hamlet was struggling with himself since his believes and the way he was raised implies on him to revenge for his father’s death by killing his uncle. Now the question which he asks himself is whether to act and kill his uncle so he can feel tat he exists or not to make a move and be considered “not to be”. This is a struggle which Shakespeare raises between Hamlet’s beliefs which are obliging him to make actions which he does not want to make because of other reasons which are of course not the beliefs which he gained from childhood, father, and community. So the real challenge is “to be” but in your own way :) However, your explanation is interesting too and i completely agree on “we only exist in the eyes of those who love us and hate us”
