The Israeli Violence Policy in Gaza

March 4th, 2008 > Ziad Khalil Abu Zayyad

The Israeli army started a new military campaign on Gaza since Wednesday and declared the end of its first part yesterday. The result was 120 Palestinian victims including 20 children that were killed. According to Israeli leaders and politicians, this attack came as a warning to Hamas in order to make it stop the Qasam simple missiles that are launched towards several Israeli cities.  As always the Israelis thought that by killing more civilians this may make a kind of pressure on Hamas and make it weaker or even make it stop its armed activities against Israel. The truth is that what happened in Gaza started a new anger wave through the whole Palestinian territories and even included the Israeli Arabs that went out to the streets demonstrating against the Israeli massacres in Gaza.  Even East Jerusalem that lately didn’t witness any demonstrations or Palestinian activities included several demonstrations and even violence. The pictures that the News channels brought on the television reminded us of the Intifada; young people throwing stones at the Israeli police and huge demonstrations demanding from the Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to stop his manipulating policy that shows one side that talks about peace and another side that represents the worst and ugliest kind of killing and shooting civilian Palestinian victims. Some Israeli analysts were anxious of a new Intifada that could start in East Jerusalem and the Israeli Arabs cities, and were surprised from the Arabic response.   The United States of America started its pressure to stop the Israeli armed activities in Gaza: The secretary Condoleezza Rice is supposed to meet the Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas and discuss with him the possibility of stopping the violence and the way of returning back to the Peace table. The truth is that the Israeli policy in Gaza shows the weakness in their way of dealing with the Palestinian case. The army and the Israeli intelligence couldn’t stand in the way of the missiles that are being thrown on the Israeli cities around Gaza, and their fear of the wide range that these missiles could reach made them hurry to take a decision of using force and attacking anyone in Gaza, even civilians in order to send a clear message that Israel will respond hardly if this continues. The Lebanese Hezballah from the other side is preparing for a response on assassinating his army leader Mughnyeh. This and the hard situation in Gaza proves that there is a well planned war for the summer of this year that this time may not be controlled and could drew with it several other states.
